Texas

Tuesday, June 14. We drove through a little of Oklahoma, then into TEXAS!!! We saw a lot of ranches, oil wells, horses and cattle. The wind died down, and we had a nice drive. We drove far before we saw any houses, and could see miles around us. It is very dry. The sky looks so huge.

We stopped at Amarillo at a visitor's center. Got info on thrift shops (yes, I thought maybe we would find cool western stuff, but that was a waste of time) cowboy outfitting stores and authentic Texas food.

Amarrillo, the boot capital of the world. Some things were rather pricy...

 Real alligator boots. $799. Wow!

We stopped at the Cadillac Ranch. There are 10 old Cadillac cars nose down in a field. There were spray cans of paint there to decorate as you wanted to...

Then we went to this restaurant. We are told this is where the locals go.
Coyote Bluff Cafe.
1/2 lb. burgers, steaks and more.
We weren't so sure about it, looks like a run down shack from the outside.

We got there at 4:50

But the food was amazing!!! The best burgers we ever had.
If you are ever in Amarrillo, Texas, be sure to check this place out.
We were glad we stayed.

At the visitor's center, we were talking to someone that said we should see this canyon 15 minutes away. We decided to drive out after supper. We were amazed! We had no idea how big, and how awesome it would be. Pictures just don't do justice, but I will try anyway. This is the view from the lookout point we first stopped at.

We have 3 cameras along, I did not take all these pictures. At least one of the children is taking pictures, and Marv and I each have a camera. What is so cool about this particular place, is that we didn't even know about it when we started out this morning. I love when that happens, we hear about a place, and check it out. There is a state park that has camping sites in the canyon, and we decided to stay the night. That meant we drove down in the canyon, and stayed at the bottom. More on the next post...
